Introducing the Subterrane Crew

Subterrane Crew led by Janus Draik
Game 2 of Summer league.  Got in a couple of games yesterday and tried out a new team.  Loads of fun and found that the new crew can go up against hardened Space Marines.

Forward Fueling Post Epsilon

Roughly every 200 kilometers along the line of promethium processing plants are forward fueling posts used to refuel the myriad transports used to move materials back and forth.  Forward Fueling Post Epsilon is at the Eastern most edge of the line, situated at the foothills of the Wargetan Mountains.  These foothills are populated by roving gangs of former plant workers, soldiers, plant guards and assorted unsavory types.  These gangs (and various scavenger crews) compete for resources to sell on the under market (and sometimes even the open market).  FFP Epsilon's fuel tanks are believed to still contain a good quantity of promethium.  Additionally, there is an abandoned transport ship still on the landing pad; stripping the tech from the transport would fetch a high price on the under market.

Black Fortress team and playing them in Kill Team

Yesterday, after finishing Janus this past week,  I finally got to introduce the team from Black Fortress' box set to our Kill Team games.  We played a couple of exhibition games to allow me to get the feel of the team which worked out pretty well.  I was able to pull off both of my missions successfully.  Truth be told, it was at great expense to the team with a high casualty rate but, hey, when you sign up for this business, it's a short life but a merry one!  Since our initial foray into playing Space Hulk, Ron and I always joked that there are no stenciled name tags on mission room prep lockers, just masking tape with names written in sharpie.  Don't get attached to any particular model...it serves a function that gets you to mission success.  I learned a lot and will take Ron's suggestion to stick with playing this crew until I know them backwards and forwards.  I really like the eclectic nature of this team as well as it lends itself to a rich back story for them.  I will stick with the GW names for each but decided to name them as a scavenger crew (Subterrane Crew), scouring the galaxy for odds and ends, lost tech, etc.  I am thinking of converting a Space Marine flyer to be their transport just for story purposes. All in all, an awesome afternoon of gaming!

Head of the Snake

One of my missions was called, "Head of the Snake."  This involved placing a non player character model at a randomly selected objective marker,  The goal is to kill the NPC by shooting it or in close combat.  If you shoot and kill the model, you still have to get to the model and basically cut the head off to prove the death of the model.  This can be harder than you think due to our rules of kill team.  We have a pretty brutal system that if you perform an action within 8" of an enemy model, that model (or models) can react.  If they pass a leadership test, they can light you up.  Given our board is a 36" wide and 24" deep board, that means you will likely have multiple models within that 8" range.  Thankfully a lot of failed reaction rolls kept my guy alive (plus some very lucky saves) to take the dead NPC's head. Whew.
