Summer League Begins!

Yesterday we kicked off Summer League and got a couple of "exhibition" games in.  Exhibition games are used to test out new rules and/or get us back into the groove of playing if we haven't played in a while.  They don't count against the win/loss total but are just as fun.

I decided to come up with a theme to use as a backdrop for our games.  The games will center on a planet in the Imperium that has been mined to almost death.  Scouring the Interwebs for ideas, I came across what I think is the perfect setting: Snope's World (background on that can be found at https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Snope%27s_World).

Each of our games involves each of us randomly choosing a mission so we play to complete the mission we got.  Because the missions are secret from each other, we try and figure out what the other guy is doing and work to prevent him from completing their mission.  If we do both, we mark it as a win, otherwise it is a draw.

Using the idea from the fandom site, here is the main idea behind this season:

Snope's World.

Snope's World is a Hive World that was once one of the most prominent planets within the Askellon Sector of the Segmentum Obscurus. After centuries of prosperity and mismanagement of the planet's natural resources, the planet is on the verge of collapse.

Rival groups backed by Imperial Oligarchs and the planet's remaining aristocracy seek to extract as much of the remaining raw material as they can before it is exhausted.  These groups have also drawn the attention of several chapters of the Adeptes Astartes who have come to investigate, often with conflicting aims.

So with that in mind, game 1's setting is:

The Alkenon Promethium Processing Plant.

This plant sits in what is now known as "The Dregs" and was a part of a chain of plants along a 1000 km line that processed raw promethium into usable fuel that was then shipped to all corners of the Imperium.  Now, with the planet's resources all but exhausted, Alkenon is one of the few remaining plants in operation.

So we got 2 games in yesterday...I might have said it somewhere before but just in case, we don't play the GW Kill Team version...we play with our own set of rules.  The way the rules are laid out, it takes a lot more thinking when deciding what to do with each model.  It's more like our version of Space Hulk where ending up with the wrong facing will get you wiped out.

My first mission was "The Head of the Snake" where I had to not only kill a cultist but also cut off his head to prove its' death.  I managed to get it done but lost 2 guys in the process.

Mission: Head of the Snake
My second mission was to assassinate one of the models on Ron's side (chosen randomly).  I got that done in turn one and then played to try and prevent Ron from completing his mission.  I thought his was to get his leader off the "end zone" (a 12" section on opposing sides of the board).  So I castled up thinking I'd just gun him down when he came around.  Nope...his mission was Recon which is to get a model touching each side of the board.  He accomplished this (seen in the photo).

Thinking I was going to prevent Ron's success.  His leader is on the board edge on the right.
As always, the games were a blast.  Next time the games will count!
