Summer League Comes to an End

Summer League has come to and end.  While the majority of the games we played were "exhibition" games, Ron did manage to win the majority of the games that counted over the past 5 months or so.  So the Kill Team trophy returns to his house.

Kill Team Trophy

Exhibition Games

Our "exhibition" games are the ones where we play using new and/or adjusted rules and we spent a ton of time tweaking our rules.  The one area that is constantly tweaked is the area involving close combat.  Ron is very adverse to the "you stand there while I hit you, then you do the same while I hit you" versions of close combat.  We've probably experimented with over a dozen close combat systems either straight from other games or a mash up of different systems with a sprinkling of home grown rules thrown in.

Our current version of close combat now involves using command points to either brace for the combat or to try and avoid it all together.  If you brace, you and your opponent go at the same time.  There is no need to use a command point if your opponent moves over their base movement as you see them coming and automatically brace.  You can also opt to shoot them but this is risky as you only can use snap shots and, if you don't kill your opponent outright, then your opponent gets the drop on you and goes first in close combat.  I'd write down the rules we use but they change so much and often that it would be a futile exercise!  But it adds a lot of fun to the games we play as we are never static.

Winter League has begun

Ron's Beastman about to put a whooping on my guys

So our gaming location has moved to Ron's house and I make the (usually) weekly trek down to his house to get in a few hours of Kill Team fun.  When I say trek, I mean the 15 minute (or so) drive down the highway.  The real trek is going home as the North bound traffic on Sunday evenings sucks!  But his pain is felt driving South to get home as the reverse is true during the summer.  So we both pay our dues:-)

Podcast or YouTube?

We thought of doing a pod cast or something at some point as our back and forth banter is often entertaining (at least to us anyway:). We'll see.  We might start out with just recording the sound and see what it takes to get something useable for publication.  I have the perfect name for it though based on our playing locations.  I won't put it out as of yet as I am toying with the idea of porting this blog over to something we can both put content onto.  Either way, I want to try and get more into a normal routine with posting stuff outside of my Instagram page.
