New Terrain Board and Change of Rules

Ron and I managed to get a couple of games of Kill Team in the past weekend.  This time we moved on from the chemical/industrial waste land to further out into a harsh desert landscape.  I had the terrain piece pictured above for some time and finally put some paint on it and there it is...a bit of Borderlands video game look.  I need to work on dripping the paint a bit more but all in all I like it.

Rules Changed Again

Ron is the rules chef of our team and is ever trying to find that right balance for our games, especially with the close combat system.  As he was starting to lay out the changes, I popped off with how about introducing command points (ala Space Hulk) and off we went down another path (or rabbit hole depending on your perspective).  Previously we could "activate" a model when the opposing player moved within 8 inches of your model(s).  Now we have 1D6 command points to use each turn (+1 for a leader that is alive for a max of 6).  If an enemy model moves within the short range of a model's weapon, you can spend a command point to do an action (shoot, move or jump into close combat).  We played 2 games with this system and it seems to work well and doesn't "unbalance" the game at all.  We will play test it a few more times before calling it a done deal but I think it will pass muster.

1 win and 1 loss

I managed to pull off the first mission but totally blew the second one.  I played Grey Knights this go around to play the new Justicar that Ron sculpted for me.  Nothing different as far as rules go but man is it a beast to see on the table top!  I went with a darker metal scheme for him figuring this guy has been around a while but added more gold to offset the dark color.  The games were fun plus we got in a good amount of shop talk.

House Rules vs. GW Rules

It would be interesting to see what other folks are doing as far as playing Kill Team using the GW rule set; do most folks go with what GW puts out or is there a fair amount of tailoring to fit their gaming style?  I read all the time on various gaming blogs about the complaints about rule x, y or z but I don't see a lot of, "well just change it to fit how you play" comments.  I have found a definite increased enjoyment playing a game I almost quit by finding a like minded person in the way we both approach the game; if the rules don't make sense, change them
