Imperial Fists 5th Company Detachment: 2nd Tactical Squad

Over the past year or so I have been slowly building out a small detachment of the 5th Company of the Imperial Fists Space Marine Chapter.  It pretty much started around a single tactical squad of marines used to play in our home grown version of Games Workshop's Kill Team.  While I probably should have posted this squad first, I couldn't resist posting my favorite model, the Redemptor Dreadnought I named Sagitta (Latin for "arrow") first.

Why Imperial Fists?  The actual reason I started with this chapter was because I wanted the challenge of painting something successfully in yellow.  Plus a yellow army just looks really cool on the tabletop!

I am not a big fan of painting models that come in squads (or any sort of grouping) as I find the painting more of a chore than fun.  This contributes to the very slow progress I make when trying to complete an army.  I love painting individual models..i.e. character models, vehicles, etc.  Probably because when I am done, I don't have 9 more just like the one I just painted!

All that said, our Kill Team games got a little bit bigger due an arms race of sorts....my friend would add a particular model with a particular weapon that was devastating on the table top, so I would add something to counter it.  So the model count went up and the pace that we played at the time meant I had to ratchet up my painting tempo.  Then we went back to strictly playing Space Hulk which has given me time to fill out my detachment at a slower pace.  I sketched out what I wanted as a full detachment and set out to fill it.  I am nearly done with the last addition to the detachment (a Hellblaster squad).  I will start posting the detachment in parts and, when done with the last part, post the whole thing.

So, here is the core of the detachment, the 2nd Squad, 5th Company:

And the transport for the squad!
